Below we have tried to answer the most common questions we have received. If you have a question that is not addressed on this page, please contact us.
1. Do I need an architect and/or interior designer first?
No. While we are not licensed architects, we can work with you to work up a remodel, addition or new construction plan. If you prefer to work with an architect, we are more than willing to work with as a team with whomever you like, and if you’d like, we will help you find an architect. Our goal is to work as a team with whomever is needed to fulfill your project’s needs.
2. Do I need to have a set of plans before I contact you?
No, plans are not needed before you contact us. We can help you at any stage in your process, whether you have plans or need assistance drawing up plans. Some projects do not require plans. However, any projects we complete will be in compliance with local building codes.
3. Do I have to research and/or select the products I want in my home?
If you wish, you can select every product we use for your project. If you are unsure, we will work with you to select products you like and that best suit your lifestyle and desires. We can also recommend excellent products that we have used in past projects.
4. Will I get my money back on a home improvement project if I decide to sell my home?
This depends on the project. Most of the time, the project is something that is designed to suit your lifestyle and desires. If you are doing work with the idea of selling your home in the near future, we can work with your realtor to realize the potential of your home.
5. What kind of guarantee do I have that we receive quality work?
Our clients are integral parts of our projects, and we want you to be completely satisfied with our work. To achieve that, we bring to the table experience, honesty, high standards, and quality craftsmanship. We would not work on a project unless we have discussed every aspect of it with you. During the course of the project, we not only listen, but ask questions as well, to make sure that nothing is overlooked. Our approach to your project is very much a team approach, and you are considered a part of our team from day one.
6. How long have you been in business?
We have been in business since 2008, but have been in the construction and remodel field since 1994.
7. Are you licensed and insured?
We do carry general liability insurance. We are not licensed as the state of Vermont does not offer a contractors license program.
8. Do you provide a warrenty?
Absolutely. Grendel Productions provides a 2-year limited warrenty on all work we perform. You will also receive various manufacturers’ warrenties on the products we use on your job.
9. Where did the name Grendel Productions come from?
The name comes from Beowulf, an olde English poem that tells a story about a great hunter who faces an evil monster named Grendel. After Beowulf defeats Grendel, he learns that the true root of the evil was not Grendel, but Grendel’s mother. This to me is a corollary to the homes we live in (Grendel) and the building industry after WWII (Grendel’s mother). The homes are not monsters; it’s the ethic and quality with which they were built, remodeled and maintained that are the true monsters. My goal is that rather than you taking care of your home, your home takes care of you – putting the monster to work for you.
